Applications of Electro Actuators in Hydraulic Solutions


In the contemporary engineering, hydraulic power has provided an impetus to the effective functioning of various applications. Advanced developments like the concept of electro hydraulic actuator in hydraulic power units, have further revolutionised the whole operation.

Earlier, Hydraulic Solutions were powered by pumps which in turn demanded big tubing and other allied parts. It was also seen and observed that in the absence of safety parameters in the design, the operation of the pumps was prone to inconveniences and hazards. Fortunately, the EHA has overcome these drawbacks and also bettered the overall performance of modern hydraulic frameworks.

Primarily, the electro hydraulic actuator (EHA) was designed and developed for applications in aviation industry particularly for controlling the speed of aircraft and ailerons when airborne and on the ground as well. With revolutionary advancements witnessed in the size, the capability and speed of an aircraft, hydraulic technocrats rose to the occasion and invented the electro actuator.

In the principle that EHA simply functions on, the motors with bettered power move a reversible pump which is closely linked to the hydraulic cylinder which is responsible for rendering the ultimate action. This highly compact and integrated system that includes the cylinder, the pump and a reservoir for hydraulic fluid, is finely packaged into a single self-contained unit. This way, today it is ‘fly-by-light’ concept. Apart from being the lightweight, the electro hydraulic actuator is also instrumental in saving huge energy to a great extent.

Apart from aviation industry, the hydraulic power unit find numerous applications in other domains of modern engineering such as earth moving and material handling equipments, space technology, cranes and winches, pile foundation hammers, snorkel-fire tenders and oil rigs etc., while empowering the controls on motion numeric control machine tools and control rigs.
